Oslo Mornings & The Luxury of Slowing Down

I worked until very late last night, so when the alarm went off this morning, I honestly wanted nothing more than to stay in bed for a few extra hours. But as the Lioness I am, I sat straight up, jumped into the shower and started the day anyway.

And strangely enough, those are often the days that end up becoming the best ones.

An hour later I was in the car heading toward Oslo for a meeting. The sky was crystal clear, light blue with not a single cloud in sight. Only sunshine, calmness and that beautiful feeling of summer slowly arriving.

So naturally, I ended up at brunch at The Pier at Kongen Marina in Oslo after the meeting. I truly love the atmosphere there. It feels slightly hidden away from the stress of the city itself. Calm water, boats moving slowly, people relaxing, conversations flowing naturally. There is something peaceful about places where people simply allow themselves to breathe for a moment.

SITTING QUIETLY OBSERVING LIFE

As I sat there with my coffee watching the surroundings, I noticed something beautiful.

So many completely different people.
Different ages.
Different styles.
Different backgrounds.
Different stories.

And honestly, that is exactly how life should be.

Imagine how incredibly boring the world would become if every person thought the same, looked the same and lived the same way.

This is something I care deeply about teaching the younger generation:
Be yourself.
Follow your own path.
Create your own dreams.

There is absolutely no reason to become a copy of everyone else if that is not who you truly are.

I believe society desperately needs more acceptance today.
Acceptance of different cultures.
Different opinions.
Different personalities.
Different ways of living.

And perhaps most importantly, we need to become better at listening before judging.

Because none of us walk around carrying the full truth about another person’s life.

“Love for others” IN A WORLD THAT NEEDS MORE HUMANITY

One thing I have been thinking a lot about lately is how important kindness and compassion truly are.

We speak so much about success, appearance, money and status in today’s world. But honestly, what matters if we forget to take care of each other along the way?

The world has become far too comfortable with negativity, online hate, gossip and cruelty hidden behind screens. Hate crime, bullying and public humiliation should never become normalized in any society.

Words matter.
Actions matter.
How we treat people matters.

Because behind every human being is a nervous system, emotions, struggles and battles we often know absolutely nothing about.

Love for others is not weakness.
It is strength.
Real strength.

Choosing kindness when the world encourages division is one of the strongest things a human being can do.

As Princess Diana once said:

“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward.”

And honestly, the world needs far more of that energy right now.

STOP LISTENING TO GOSSIP

Another thing I reflected on today:
Why do people listen so much to gossip?

If you were not there yourself, how can you truly know what happened?

Too often gossip is not about concern.
It is about projection, insecurity and sometimes simply the desire to damage another person.

And that should concern all of us.

Strong people build others up.
Weak people attempt to tear others down.

The younger generation especially needs to learn the value of critical thinking, emotional intelligence and independent reflection instead of blindly following noise online.

ROAD TRIPS & CLEARING THE MIND

One thing about me:
I absolutely love driving.

I can drive for hours without getting tired of it. There is something strangely therapeutic about the road, the music, the movement and the silence between phone calls.

Often while driving home from work I handle important calls, organize plans and structure the rest of the day. And when there are no calls, I simply sit with music and my own thoughts.

And funny enough, even after driving the same roads again and again, I suddenly notice something completely new.
A small house.
A reflection in the water.
A detail in nature I somehow never saw before.

Maybe life works the same way.

Sometimes we become so busy rushing forward that we forget to truly look around us.

FUN FACT

Research in psychology actually shows that road trips and driving can help reduce stress levels for many people because repetitive movement, music and changing scenery may activate relaxation responses in the brain. Some researchers even compare long drives to a form of active meditation.

Maybe that explains why some of our clearest thoughts arrive while looking through a windshield.
