Some days carry a little more meaning than others.

I had such a lovely celebration, and it unfolded in several beautiful parts. It started quietly with my girls and my love, which was exactly how I wanted it. There is something very special about beginning a celebration with the people closest to you, without rushing, without too much planning, just being together.

Later, I celebrated with my sister and her family, followed by lunch in Oslo with both of my siblings and their families.

Family gatherings have become even more meaningful to me over the years. Everyone has their own schedules, commitments and lives, so when we manage to sit around the same table, it feels important.

The evening ended in Oslo with my love.

We went out together and unexpectedly met several people we know. Oslo has that wonderful quality. You can plan your evening, but the best moments are often the ones you never planned at all.

When Your Children Start Creating Their Own Lives

My girls are becoming so grown up.

They had their own plans for the rest of the day and chose not to come with us to Oslo. Instead, they spent time with friends and followed their own plans.

It felt like one of those small moments that quietly reminds you that life is changing.

There was a time when they naturally came along everywhere. Now they have their own friendships, their own plans and their own world that is constantly expanding.

And that is exactly how it should be.

There is a time for everything.

I think part of being a mother to older children is learning to enjoy watching them become independent, even while remembering the years when they always wanted to be right beside you.

Watching a Room Come to Life

We also spent time putting furniture together again, and I still find it incredibly satisfying to watch a room transform.

At first there are boxes everywhere, pieces that seem to make no sense, screws you hope you have enough of, and instructions that always look easier than they actually are.

Then suddenly it comes together.

A new piece of furniture can completely change the feeling of a room.

For me, interior design has never only been about how things look. It is about atmosphere, function and how a space makes you feel when you walk into it.

Sometimes the smallest adjustment creates the biggest difference.

Fun fact

Our brains can form an impression of a room within seconds. Light, proportions, furniture placement and visual balance all influence whether a space feels calm, inviting or overwhelming.

That might explain why changing one piece of furniture can suddenly make an entire room feel different.

From Home to Markets

While life has been full of family, interiors and celebration, the financial markets have been anything but quiet.

Oslo Børs closed higher, with the main index ending up 0.72 percent at 2,040.52 points. Total turnover was approximately NOK 5.04 billion.

Energy was once again one of the most important drivers.

Brent crude was trading around 2.9 percent higher at approximately 86 dollars per barrel at the close in Oslo, while European TTF natural gas rose around 8.4 percent to 60.2 euros per MWh.

The moves reflect how sensitive the market remains to geopolitical developments.

Hormuz Remains One of the Most Important Pieces of the Puzzle

Iran has said that negotiations with Oman regarding shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz are entering their final phase.

At the same time, Iran has indicated that the strait will not fully reopen until the United States meets several conditions.

This continues to create uncertainty in the oil market.

Pareto Securities believes current pricing indicates that investors still expect a relatively quick solution to the conflict between the United States and Iran, followed by a possible return toward previous production levels.

However, some of the most difficult questions remain unresolved.

Control of the Strait of Hormuz and the nuclear issue are among them, which means reaching a compromise may be far more difficult than markets currently assume.

This is why volatility in oil prices may remain high.

At Polymarket, the probability of an agreement between Iran and Oman concerning Hormuz by 15 August has been priced at around 33 percent.

The probability of traffic through the strait returning to normal levels by 30 September has been priced considerably lower, at around 17 percent.

Markets clearly see the possibility of progress, but they are far from convinced that the situation will be resolved quickly.

Shipping Continues to Show Strength

The shipping index on Oslo Børs ended approximately 0.5 percent higher.

Within crude oil tankers, sentiment remains relatively strong in the eastern markets, with VLCC rates holding at solid levels.

Suezmax rates have also stabilised after falling earlier, while activity remains relatively strong due to continued uncertainty in the Black Sea.

Arctic Securities has highlighted disruption both in the Black Sea and the Red Sea.

Kazakhstan’s crude oil exports are expected to remain approximately 30 percent lower through August, corresponding to roughly 0.6 million barrels per day.

The decline began during the second half of July and has been connected to attacks affecting the port of Novorossiysk and tanker activity in the region.

Despite lower export volumes, tanker rates, particularly VLCC rates, remain strong.

That is an interesting signal.

Normally, lower volumes of oil at sea could free up vessels and weaken rates. Instead, the market appears to be supported by longer sailing distances, changing trade routes and more complicated logistics, including additional ship to ship transfers.

For shipping investors, this is another reminder that geopolitical disruption can reduce volumes while simultaneously creating longer routes and greater inefficiencies.

And inefficiency can sometimes be valuable for tanker owners.

The Numbers Worth Watching

Several economic releases are also worth following.

Norwegian CPI for July will be closely watched, together with the producer price index.

Inflation remains one of the most important indicators for interest rate expectations, and therefore also for the Norwegian krone and Oslo Børs.

Internationally, investors will also be watching Japanese current account figures, Danish inflation, Swedish industrial orders and the Bank of Japan outlook summary.

On the corporate side, Seadrill is among the companies reporting, while Himalaya Shipping has a general meeting scheduled.

There is plenty happening beneath the surface.

Perspective Matters

There is something about these past few days that reflects exactly what I want Nordè to be about.

Life and markets exist side by side.

Children grow up.

Rooms change.

Families gather.

Relationships deepen.

And at the same time, oil moves, shipping rates change, inflation surprises and geopolitics reshape markets.

Both worlds matter.

One gives us perspective on where the world may be heading.

The other reminds us why any of it matters in the first place.

As Steve Jobs once said:
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”

That quote feels especially relevant when life moves quickly.

The girls are growing.
The rooms are changing. The markets are moving.
My love is so special for me

And I am reminded once again to appreciate the chapter we are in, instead of wishing ourselves into the next one.

Nordè Motto

Stay curious. Think long term. Create a life you do not need to escape from.

There is a time for everything.

Right now, I am simply grateful for beautiful days, the people I love, exciting changes at home and everything still waiting ahead.
