Some days carry a little more meaning than others.
I had such a lovely celebration this weekend, and it unfolded in several beautiful parts. It started quietly with my girls and my love, which was exactly how I wanted it. There is something very special about beginning a celebration with the people closest to you, without rushing, without too much planning, just being together.
Later, we celebrated with my sister and her family, followed by lunch in Oslo with both of my siblings and their families.
Family gatherings have become even more meaningful to me over the years. Everyone has their own schedules, commitments and lives, so when we manage to sit around the same table, it feels important.
The Small Things That Set the Tone
This morning started with coffee in bed from my love.
Such a small gesture, and yet exactly the kind of thing that can set the tone for an entire day.
I think we sometimes underestimate the value of these little moments. A cup of coffee. Someone thinking of you before the day has properly started. A quiet morning before everything begins moving again.
These are the things I notice more and more.
Not necessarily the grand gestures, but the small ones that make everyday life feel softer.
A Morning for Myself
While my love went out for a run, I did a strength session at home.
There is something I really enjoy about training at home. No rush, no travelling anywhere, just putting on some music and getting it done.
Afterwards, I took a long shower and washed my hair..
-And anyone with long hair knows that this is not always a quick operation.
Washing it is one thing.
Drying it is another.
Then comes the brushing, the styling and somehow what was supposed to be a simple shower has suddenly become an entire project.
But it also feels good.
Fresh hair, fresh clothes, a little training behind you and suddenly you feel ready to start the day properly.
Fun fact
Hair grows on average around one centimetre per month, although this varies from person to person.
So those of us with long hair have quite literally spent years growing it.
Maybe that makes the time spent washing and drying it feel slightly more justified.
There Is a Lot to Do
Today is one of those days with plenty on the list.
There is a lot to follow up.
A lot to organise.
And a lot to write.
And yes, I still love using a pen.
There is something completely different about putting words on paper.
For those of you who have followed Nordè from the beginning, you already know that writing has been part of my own therapy for several years.
It has helped me organise thoughts, understand situations and sometimes simply get things out of my head and onto paper.
Not everything we write has to become something.
Sometimes it is simply about creating space.
Why I Keep Writing
Nordè continues.
And I continue writing.
Sometimes about life.
Sometimes about interiors.
Sometimes about family, relationships, business, markets and the world around us.
And every now and then, Nordè brings topics to the surface that may feel a little more serious.
I think that matters.
Because it is easy to scroll past headlines without really understanding what lies behind them.
Inflation is a good example.
It can sound like a distant economic term, but in reality it affects almost everything.
The cost of food.
Housing.
Interest rates.
Travelling.
Shopping.
Businesses.
Investments.
And ultimately, how much money we have left at the end of the month.
I wrote a little about inflation yesterday because understanding these things gives us a better foundation for understanding what is happening around us.
You do not have to be an economist.
You just need to stay curious.
Understanding the World Around Us
One of the things I want Nordè to continue doing is combining everyday life with a little more context.
Because life does not happen separately from the economy, politics or global events.
They are connected.
When inflation rises, interest rates may rise.
When interest rates rise, mortgages become more expensive.
Businesses may invest less.
Consumers may spend less.
Markets react.
Currencies move.
And suddenly something that sounded like an abstract number in a financial headline affects the price of dinner, your monthly expenses or what a company can afford to do next.
That is why it can be worth paying attention.
Not to worry about everything.
But to understand a little more.
Writing as Therapy
There is another reason I keep coming back to writing.
It slows things down.
A thought can feel overwhelming when it is only circling inside your head.
On paper it often becomes smaller.
Clearer.
Sometimes even manageable.
There are days when I write because I have something I want to share.
Other days I write because I need to understand something myself.
And sometimes the two become the same thing.
As Joan Didion famously wrote:
“I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking.”
I understand that feeling very well.
Writing has a way of showing you what was already there.
Ready for Oslo
So this became a morning blog.
Coffee in bed.
A workout.
Freshly washed hair.
A pen.
A few thoughts.
And now it is time to get ready for Oslo.
There is plenty waiting for me today, and I am looking forward to seeing what the day brings.
Some days are carefully planned.
Others become something completely different.
I think there is something beautiful about leaving a little room for both.
Nordè Motto
Stay curious. Think long term. Create a life you do not need to escape from.
Today, I am taking the small things with me.
The coffee.
The writing.
The movement.
The quiet start,,,
And then I am heading into a new day, ready to fill it in my own way.
